Drive Testing
Once a site is On Air, it is necessary to check the performance of the new site. This is done through verification drive tests. The sites are checked for validating integration parameters and ascertaining call performance: call termination, call origination, handover, power control RX Quality and RX Level etc.
Drive tests are performed by a customized measuring van, on which an antenna is fitted for each of the various measuring instruments. This ensures that the instruments have consistent and repeatable conditions and makes it possible to simulate indoor coverage by turning down the signal strength.
SCFT is for verifying whether individual BTS works well or not, by making a single cell function test of BTS hardware and software. Currently Performing Drive Test / SCFT on X CAL Essential items to be tested are as follows:
- BTS Transmitter Output Measurement Test
- Initial parameter establishment (Pilot PN/System ID/Site ID/Frequency, Neighbor List)
- Call Origination and Termination Test
- Softer Handoff Test/Antenna installation check (Direction, Tilt, Transmission Line)
- Single Cell Coverage Test
- Noise Floor Test
- Parameter check
Electromagnetic Fields Survey

Basic guidelines, which should be considered to install the antennas
The Base Station Antennas should be at least 3 m away from nearby buildings and antennas should not directly face a building. Further, the lower end of the antenna should be at least 3 meters above the ground or roof.
